One detail worth knowing: since 1959 the inch has been defined as exactly 2.54 cm, so length conversions are exact — but temperature is an offset scale, not a ratio. You cannot simply multiply your way from Celsius to Fahrenheit; the formula needs the +32 shift, which is why 0°C is 32°F rather than 0°F.
