Most training plans stall for a boring reason: the numbers underneath them were guessed. Daily calorie targets, protein per kilogram of body weight, heart-rate zones, body-mass index — all of it is straightforward arithmetic, yet almost nobody computes it, and a calorie target that is 400 off can quietly cancel months of effort.
The tools in this category do that arithmetic for you. They cover estimating maintenance calories and setting a deficit for a cut or a surplus for a bulk, computing BMI and seeing where it lands, deriving heart-rate training zones from age and resting pulse, and splitting a day's calories into workable macros. A fitness calculator is what you reach for at the start of a program — and, just as importantly, every time the program changes: new goal, new activity level, new number.
That second use is the one people skip. Energy needs move with body weight, so the calorie target that produced steady progress in month one drifts toward plain maintenance as the scale moves. Recompute after every four to five kilograms of change; it takes a minute, and it explains most plateaus that get blamed on metabolism.
